Between the Sicilian city that recommend you visit, Noto is certainly among the top of the list. And 'it considered the capital of the Italian Baroque and is a world heritage site.
It is located on a plateau overlooking the "Asinaro Valley", in a very popular green area for almond and olive trees. Looking at any map, you can see that the main roads are practically parallel to each other and are all from east to west to constantly receive the light of the sun from morning to night. Obviously this type of building is not accidental, because the current village was built where it is now after the destruction of the ancient city of Noto, a result of a strong earthquake occurred in the year 1693, which made him decide to the inhabitants of that time to abandon the previous site inhabited by the current one. The roads also (at least the one of the main oldest part) intersect each other at right angles. This gave to me as a visitor a great sense of order, and it is certainly evidence of a carefully planned building at the time of reconstruction. The town appears, especially at sunset, a beautiful light pink color. This optical effect is due to the sunlight that illuminates the limestone of which is built almost the whole city (in the oldest central part). Walking seems that the city was built to accommodate visitors.

Noto can be reached from many points of Sicily. Despite what is said, the main roads are fairly well maintained. The situation is different if you decide to take alternate routes. The modern GPS navigation devices connected to the Internet is a very effective means to choose the best roads, and especially to avoid traffic accidents. But if you have time and want to see particular places, also I suggest you follow the alternative route marked by the navigator. It takes longer but I assure you it's worth it. It will be obvious, but the journey to reach a goal is more beautiful of the goal itself (though is not the case of NOTO!). however, I suggest you avoid the night to make a similar choice. We in the car we have much mileage without meeting anyone and without lighting, but the choice was dictated by the desire to go in search of adventure.
VEHICLE PARKING - CAR CAMPER - MOTO If you reach Noto with private transport, you will definitely need to find parking. Turning a bit 'you could find it, but in our case it was not so simple. My advice is to use the parking fee. Sure they cost a bit, but they are very comfortable, and usually not very far from the central area of the city.

TIME NEEDED TO VISIT to visit Noto calmly just a day, so as to be able to dwell not only to the famous places, but also to shoot in the less known streets. I believe that this is the minimum time to devote to this unique place of its kind and very popular all over the world. Obviously if you have available in the evening then after walking (a lot), you can stop for dinner at one of the many restaurants available.
RECOMMENDED CLOTHING As for the clothing, in this case, the practical advice are exclusively related to the season in which you will go seeing the sights. In summer, remember that you are in Sicily, so, especially during the hottest hours, the sun is felt. Add to this that the city is all stone, so the effect of the heat tends to amplify, so I suggest crossing it in the morning or late afternoon.
SHOES Particular attention is devoted to shoes you wear. In Noto there is to see and that's why you walk a lot. So for women to avoid heels or other stylish shoes. As always, good hiking shoes are your best bet.
SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN The visit to the town is suitable not only for adults but also for children, especially in view of the fact that the main course is almost completely closed to private traffic. This allows you to leave children free to move with some freedom, for the tranquility of the parents.
WHERE TO EAT To eat there are no problems. The city is clearly accustomed to welcoming tourists, and certainly no lack of restaurants. On the main street you will find several rooms ready to welcome you and make you eat well. If you do not want to sit, and you just want a snack, there are little places to buy all kinds of pizza, and especially the delicious "Sicilian arancini." You can then complete your meal while enjoying an ice cream and the amazing granite. Each bar sells them, but I recommend you buy the ones that you will find in the main street of Noto.
INTERNET - CELL CONNECTION - POINT WI-FI As always there are no problems with the internet connection. Now places that offer free WI-FI are many, so you'll have to navigate not even eat your gigabytes.
THE CATHEDRAL OF ST NICOLÒ
THE HOME FRONT |
THE CHURCH OF SAN NICOLÒ - Required in Noto is a visit to the Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Nicholas. At the entrance you will find some of the same people with identification badge around his neck that will offer guided tours of the same. Council to rely on these people to avoid turning within the same without understanding exactly what you are seeing and to know the history of this true work of art. The cathedral 'was practically all rebuilt in fairly recent times. In fact, in 1996, the structure collapse almost completely due to a construction defects that compromised the stability. In 1996, after a heavy downpour the cathedral veins down after resisting two powerful earthquakes, the 'last in 1990 a few years before the collapse.
PALAZZO DUCEZIO
PALAZZO DUCEZIO |
VIEW COLONNADE |
Walking along the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, coming from Piazza XVI Maggio, where the City Theatre, you will encounter on your right Ducezio Palace, in front of the St. Nicholas Cathedral, both located in the Town Hall Square. The first impact is that of an imposing structure (the photo above testifies). Once inside the building, on the left there is an attendant at the ticket office. This very kind person told us the history of the building. He was dedicated to the founder of the same Noto, Ducezio (obviously the one destroyed by the earthquake of 1693), an important leader who centuries ago (there is talk of the fifth century BC) opposed the advance of the Greeks, putting himself at the head of the local populations of ' ancient Sicily - the Sicilians. We are told that the property was built on the basis of a French-inspired model, and that the construction had started in the year 1746 and completed after years, in the early nineteenth century. The porch, as one can see in the photo, is composed of eleven arches, with a newly built upper floor, in the fifties. The entrance is reached via a short staircase in the shape of a semicircle that takes only part of the main facade
THE HALL OF MIRRORS - PALAZZO DUCEZIO
Near the ticket office, at your left, leaving the front door behind him, is a very famous room, known as the "Hall of Mirrors".
It is a wide space (though not great as one might think), where there are two large mirrors that they look at each other. If you stand in front of you will notice a particular optical effect, ie the same mirrors that reflect to infinity! Looking up to the top, you will notice the ceiling with a central large fresco dating from the 18th century painted by ANTONIO MAZZA. It represents the Ducezio leader who indicated where the town of Noto (old) must be built.
THE APPEARANCE OF DUCEZIO |
All around this fresco are the representations of the twelve months of the year. The man at the ticket office told us that the special nature of these images and that only apparently seem to be three-dimensional, but in reality they are paintings. I can assure you that it is impossible even for a long time staring at the pictures to understand that these are two-dimensional representations. (see photos). It is a unique optical effect in its kind.
Currently the rooms are used for official and there are also celebrated civil marriages meetings.

MUNICIPAL THEATRE
CONTEMPORARY ART GALLERY
"ELVIRA EMILIA PIRRONE RESSO"
You pay a very low ticket, and before climbing the stairs that lead to the upper floors where there is the exhibition itself, a guy behind the ticket office, with great passion tells us the history of the museum.
The exhibition is installed in a large room, where there are the artist's works seamlessly. They range from bronze sculptures to coins. Details are the busts that the artist dedicated to his mother, and to which was obviously very attached.
An important part of the artistic production is located in the town of Recanati.
The exhibition is housed in an area of the Museo Civico di Noto. At the entrance of that you will find on display ancient artifacts.

NOTO VIEW
Noto is not only beautiful view from below, walking through its streets and the main course, but also seen from above. A great place of observation is the terrace of the beautiful church known as St. Clare, but actually dedicated to the Assumption. Once inside, on your left facing the altar, you will notice the presence of a person assigned to the ticket for entrance to the bell tower terrace of the same church. It climbs a narrow spiral staircase and you come to the spacious terrace, where there are the bells.
From here, leaving behind the bells, on your right you will see the Basilica of St. Nicholas and the part of the Palazzo Ducezio. Turning
360 degrees you can see other sights of the city
WALKING THE STREETS OF NOTO

SOUVENIRS / GIFTS
Being a tourist town, you'll have no trouble finding some shops that offer all sorts of souvenirs. It ranges from the typical Sicilian ceramics to food. Also in this case the prices are for all pockets. Even if you do not plan to buy any presents, but my advice is go and have a look. The ceramic products are very unique and colorful. In some selling local food you can taste the delicacies true. Once you try it will be impossible not to buy something.

ANCIENT NOTO
ANCIENT NOTO
If you have time, and it is not late, recommend a bet to visit ANCIENT NOTO. (GPS coordinates 36 ° 56'47.31 "N 15 ° 1'23.15" E - yellow marker previous photo). This is the previous settlement inhabited, that of abandoned after the severe earthquake of 1693, which completely devastated the city. The site is abrade, but clearly distinguish the walls that have stood for centuries. The ruins are about 10 km, and the road to reach it is impressive, especially for the gorges that you see on your left. At some point you will meet one particular particular bridge to the four small obelisks at the four corners of the bridge itself. Along the way you will meet even the SANCTUARY OF MARY SCALE OF PARADISE. Council to go down and take a look at the imposing structure (with the adjoining convent) and the small church, which is reached by climbing a steep staircase. It is also located in a very green dot.

SANCTUARY SANTA MARIA SCALE OF PARADISE
It is a structure located in the area of the Iblei, in a very picturesque place, near an old quarry and a wooded gorge where flows the stream Madonna della Scala.
Council to leave the vehicle in the square opposite the sanctuary and climb the stairs inside the Church. Once you enter the church you will find the effigy of the Virgin Mary and down the remains of the Venerable Third Jerome.

If you have time, and want to take a refreshing bath (of course in the summer season), I suggest you go on the beach LIDO DI NOTO. You will find the beautiful Sicilian sea and beaches with some establishments. The distance from the city center to the beach is about 8 km. (GPS COORDINATES 36 ° 51'16.20 "N 15 ° 6'50.23" E)
NOTO LIDO HOUSE MILOCCA http://www.casalemilocca.it/ CASALE MILOCCA - FACEBOOK CASALE MILOCCA - INSTAGRAM
Our shifts in locations around Syracuse have all had a common origin: the HOUSE Milocca, a unique facility of its kind to stay during your vacation. It is located just minutes from the Gulf of Fanusa, only beach within the Marine Protected Plemmirio. Clear blue sea, with a sandy bottom, ideal to relax and snorkel along the coast. From there, a small dirt track, cycling and mountain biking, all along the cliff up to the Costa del Sol, another small beach area. Continuing on the road, you reach the beach of Arenella, one of the most beautiful and popular of the entire coastline of Syracuse. The hinterland of this area is historically dedicated to agriculture and vineyards. There are citrus trees, olive groves and wine presses dating back to the period of Greek colonization. Particularly fertile ground that, thanks to the proximity to the coast, has allowed the formation of a soil composed of the breakup of the underlying limestone and organic substances.Land that lends itself very well to the realization of a Orto Synergetic. And this was the choice of Casale Milocca, create a synergic vegetable garden to offer its guests a natural and healthy eating. The principles behind the garden of Casale Milocca are oriented to the environment and quality of vegetables, cultivation does not see the use of either chemical fertilizer or organic fertilizer. The weed control is done through the mulch and is not used any type of herbicide. His philosophy is to consider soil as an actual living organism, capable of self-improvement, and without our invasive surgery. They will in fact be the same plants to fertilize the soil thanks to their organic residues and the set of insects and bacteria that naturally coexist next to them. The precautions of use are very simple and consist in not plow or fertilize the land, and especially in sowing together at least 3 different species of plants. By choosing a suitable manner in certain crops it may be obtained entirely natural results, as the absorption of atmospheric nitrogen in the soil, which occurs thanks to the legumes, the removal of parasites is obtained with the sowing of garlic or onions or flowers such as calendula . All this means that you create the conditions for the ground to fertilize and protect themselves on their own, simply by exploiting the natural ability of plants to synthesize the necessary elements.
